Septum piercing?

I have heard that if septum is pierced,both nostrils must be pierced.If only one nostril is pierced ,the nose will bent gradually to the other side.Is it correct?My girl friend's septum was pierced when she was sixteen because oy their family believes.Now she wants to get her nostril pierced.Is it compulsary to pierce her nose on both sides?
