What is a good substitute for SOS steel wool scouring pads?

I have a frying pan that seems to be easily scratched from SOS pads. Maybe I am scrubbing too hard, but are there frying pans that are not so easily scratchable? Less abrasive but as effective cleaners for frying pans? What about non-stick frying pans? This has become more than one question, but I think I got my concern covered well.
